WHO WE ARE
Trees for Jane is an international grassroots campaign to protect and restore the world’s trees and forests inspired by Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, the Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and a UN Messenger of Peace.
For years, Jane has spoken out about our planet’s rapidly shrinking forests and how this loss is intensifying climate change. But she always includes a message of hope: that support for the protection and restoration of the world’s forest ecosystems can make a difference!
We offer opportunities for people of all walks of life to participate in regreening our planet. Like Jane, we believe that every individual can make a difference in solving climate change.
OUR MISSION
Our global mission is to help everyone to support broad-scale community-based forest protection and restoration efforts. We also want to inspire individuals of all walks of life, everywhere, to plant and care for their own trees.
Our mission is aligned with the United Nations’ Decade on Ecosystem Restoration initiative and the Trillion Tree Campaign with 1t.org—a global call to action to protect and restore one trillion trees by 2030.

TACARE - OUR GUIDING PHILOSOPHY
The best outcomes happen when people and the planet thrive together. In 1994, under Jane’s guidance, the Jane Goodall Institute launched TACARE, a program supporting locally managed education and socio-economic development together with sustainable natural resource management.
Rather than imposing outside solutions, this program partners with local residents and consults communities about their needs and knowledge. They work collaboratively, designing community-led plans that benefit both people and the environment. Trees for Jane’s engagement with grassroots organizations is guided by the TACARE community-centered approach.
